This guitar is nearly identical to the guitar that placed in the Granada competition - both being "classical" guitars with cedar tops and cypress back and sides. Julia tells us that this cypress comes from one of two 40-year old sets that she has been saving for a special occasion (the other set was used for the guitar that placed in the Granada contest) so we are pleased to have it as our first offering from her. Julia builds completely in the traditional Spanish style and if anything her sound and feel resembles Miguel Rodriguez guitars from the 1960s - like their cypress instruments, this guitar is lightly built, has a fast, immediate attack and is followed by a lovely and full, harmonically rich quality of sound in every note. This instrument has plenty of power for any concert situation and plays with ease, very responsive to the right-hand and a nice, smooth neck shape for the left hand. We are very excited to be representing Julia Wenzel in the US and are very impressed with this - our first instrument from her.
