Description
Richard Reynoso is a guitar maker based out of California, USA. His instruments are fully traditional in construction design and largely inspired by the great Spanish makers of the past, but they do offer a voice and personality that is entirely his own. This instrument has one of the boldest and original appearances that it is worth mentioning in some detail. First off, it features his signature carved headstock with ebony veneer which has a dark, almost black color that is matched with the black walnut neck, stained with iron-acetate, done as a tribute to the great pre-Torres 17th and 18th century guitar makers such as Lacote, Stauffer, Panormo, etc. As we've said about his instruments before, one is tempted to say that they have an almost "neo-art deco" look, found in the hard yet graceful lines and contrasts throughout. This guitar features his latest rosette design - which is a piece of art in itself - Richard drew his inspiration for this design from a variety of sources including art-deco styled chandeliers and ancient Egyptian jewelry. The end of the fingerboard features a tapering on the bass side which descends into the soundhole while curving toward the treble side to house an extra 20th fret over the high E and B strings. Additional inlay work is found throughout the guitar including an elaborate back center seam pattern, heel cap inlay and tie block. Tuners are by Klaus Scheller in Germany with black buffalo horn buttons and gold plates to complement the Gold evo fretwire. Overall a stunning instrument aesthetically.

Happily its sound is as bold and strong as its appearance. It has a very steady sound, well-defined, with noticeably very agile dynamic range. Each note is very dense, with the overtones tightly packed into the firmness of every note. In many ways we are reminded of sonic qualities found in Friederich and Fleta. Back and sides are made with Red maple (also known as "Dragon tongue"), which adds a "golden glow" layer to each note. At the same time it has excellent clarity and separation between voices across the entire register. Feel and playability are very comfortable, with a well-shaped neck and easy action providing a the player with a sense of control and a solid, stable feel in all playing positions. Although this instrument is previously owned, it is dead-mint, brand-new condition. GSI is proud to be working with Reynoso and we see much talent and uniqueness in the design, build quality, tone and feel of his guitars.
