Description
One of Britain’s most respected builders, Paul Fischer has been making guitars in his own workshop since 1975. Prior to that, he studied fist with harpsichord maker Robert Goble, and later built guitars in the famed David Rubio workshop in Oxfordshire, producing Rubio guitars with his initials “PF” stamped on the inside of the guitar, a practice well known from the Jose Ramirez shop prior to 1971. This is a traditionally made instrument, with striking materials, including “3-dimensional” birds-eye maple for the back and sides, and snakewood accents on the heelcap, binding and tuning machine buttons (which are Rodgers). The back and sides feature additional herringbone purfling which frame the satinwood appointments beautifully. Playability is very smooth, with a very punchy responsiveness, resulting in great ease of right hand playing. The guitar has a plump, warm sound, with a very clear core to each note, all the way from the lowest bass note to the highest treble, which in this case, is a high C natural, thanks to the additional 20th fret. This is one of the more decorated-looking and finer-sounding examples of this makers work that we’ve seen to date, a spectacular find for anyone who has wanted to own a special guitar from this fine maker.
