Description

Luthier Zoran Kuvac is based in Bosnia and Herzegovina (ex Yugoslavia) and has been a full-time luthier for many years, this instrument being his 300th to date. His influences are mainly traditional Spanish makers such as Torres and Romanillos (he has participated twice in the Romanillos masterclasses) however his current instruments (including the one we are offering here) are based more on the contemporary French school. The guitar we have on offer now is inspired by the work of Dominique Field in particular and a look inside at the bracing system indeed confirms this influence. Although inspired structurally by Field, aesthetically this guitar is uniquely of Zoran Kuvac's design. Materials are very elegant - it features some dramatic birds-eye maple for the back, sides, head veneer that have an almost "lava-lamp" like appearance when viewed at different angles. The soundboard is a gorgeous tight-grained, quarter-sawn set of spruce with some subtle bearclaw figuring throughout. Zoran also added a a bit more inlay into this instrument - tastefully done herringbone in the top purfling frames the instrument beautifully. Sound is extremely refined - a thick, fat sound yet with brilliant clarity at the same time. Very responsive to both hands, it has great punch and huge volume particularly for a maple guitar. Many well-known guitarists including Zoran Dukić and Edin Karamazov have played Kuvac guitars.
