Description

This cedar blanca with pegs has a fast response and a big, woody, traditional flamenco sound. More precisely, the tone is clear and focused with a slightly dark texture - "Andalusian" in character – not surprising as Gerundino himself lived and built in the city of Almeria: birthplace and home of Antonio de Torres and the modern Spanish guitar.

This instrument was initially owned (as indicated by a second dedication label inside the guitar) to a friend of Gerundino's named "El Chipi". It has 3 repaired (cleated internally) cracks on the bass side of the soundboard, back and sides are crack-free. Several years ago Yuris Zeltins re-worked the top cracks and replaced the golpeadors with striking ones in black. The inspiration came from Yuris having seen a 1971 Miguel Rodriguez cedar blanca peghead, also with original black tap plates. It plays great - the extremely lightweight build give it a very explosive attack, it has a big, raspy sound. Very similar to the famous sound of Paco Pena, who famously played a cedar blanca peghead Gerundino from this same era. Overall, a wonderful concert guitar of a great vintage for the serious flamenco player and collector.
