Description

This is one of the more interesting Velazquez guitars we have seen - it features many transitional elements found in his instruments both prior to and after this period. Structural elements like the bracing pattern are retained from his prior work in the 1960's but the box itself is larger and deeper with a more rounded plantilla, a design he used throughout the 1970's and early 1980's. Although a bit larger in size, it has a very lightweight build and quality of sound/response that is much more reminiscent of Miguel Rodriguez, than of Hauser, with whom Velazquez is usually compared. This particular guitar is therefore much more "Spanish" in character than his typical instruments. The top features an beautiful piece of bearclaw spruce with some tight cross-grain features, and the back and sides are a very exotic and beautiful set of Pau Ferro with an almost three-dimensional character. Playability is very easy thanks to the sleek shape and contour of the neck. We consider Manuel Velazquez to be one of the most important American makers to date and his best instruments are, in our opinion, equal to the best of the European makers.
