Description

Jose Oribe began making guitars in 1962, who along with Manuel Velazquez, makes him one of North America's veteran builders of the past half-century. Oribe is famous for his fine materials as a quick glance at this instrument will attest. This instrument is built in a style that is often compared to the finest Madrid-style instruments (Ramirez, Contreras, Bernabe, etc.) in its tonal and structural characteristics. It has a big, deep and rich tone with great volume, making this a particularly strong instrument for live performance. GV Rubio recently repaired one top crack and one crack in the back (next to the heel) but the guitar is in otherwise excellent condition including original finish (and hence nearly 60 years of playing wear, particularly on the top). We obtained this guitar from the widow of the original owner who tells us this guitar was lovingly played regularly since it was constructed, so it also has a great, loose, played-in, rich quality of tone across all registers.
