Description

This guitar was made by Arcangel Fernandez, one of the best Spanish luthiers of flamenco guitars in latter half of the twentieth century. Like his master Marcelo Barbero, Arcangel's work has played an integral role in defining the archetypal flamenco guitar. This example from 1958 is one of the more lightweight examples we have seen of his work, and subsequently has a very strong, booming sound, with lightning-fast response. The basses have impressive richness and body, and the trebles have a beautiful, singing, almost "lyrical" quality. It has had some expert repairs done to some hairline cracks and finish work and is currently in concert-ready condition. Playability is superb with low action and a slender, easy neck. This guitar has only had two owners to date. According to the second owner (whom we acquired it from) it was originally bought by a flamenco player named Andres Heredia, who was a well-known professional on the Madrid tablao scene (i.e. nightly flamenco shows in famous Flamenco "nightclubs") back in the 1950s, 60s and onwards. He bought the guitar new from Arcangel in 1958 and it was his main guitar - as is evidenced by its "played-in" condition! After Andres died, his family eventually sold the guitar to the second owner, and accoring to the family, the guitar was "famous" in Madrid professional circles for being a great guitar. Extremely desirable in all ways - to the performer and collector alike.
