Description

Paul Jacobson is now mostly retired, making only one or two instruments a year. This one is from the end of his more active period, and graces the homepage on his website. Over his career he became known for creating thoroughly professional instruments, with even tone and volume across registers, very responsive to player input, with concert volume and great projection. He was also a great innovator, creating a 'twist plane' system on the fingerboard, allowing more room for the bass strings to vibrate while keeping action low on the trebles for fast passages; a new reinforced neck system that prevents the neck rising or warping over the years; a proprietary matte varnish for the top, more durable than French polish shellac but thinner and more open than traditional sprayed lacquer; and he was an early adopter of the 12-hole bridge for better break angle and downward pressure at the saddle, for greater volume. The top is a master grade, very fine grained cedar, in nearly pristine condition with only a few slight marks. The body is beautiful African rosewood, finished in a gloss. A superb instrument for the stage or the collector seeking a rare guitar from a celebrated American maker.
