Description
Although his reputation rests primarily on the quality of his guitars, he also has built several other instruments including lutes. This is a fine 8-course Renaissance lute built in 1989 for a professional guitarist who was seeking to play Elizabethan music on a period style instrument to reproduce an authentic sound and look. The top 6 courses are tuned like a guitar, with the exception of the 3rd course, which is tuned a half step down. The remaining two courses can be tuned in a descending scale. Workmanship is phenomenal, which is typical of this makers work - to truly appreciate the perfection of the craftsmanship, it almost requires viewing with a microscope.Orfeo Magazine No. 10 - West Coast Luthiers
