German Luthier, Jochen Röthel, Shares Photos of his Next GSI Guitar. See the Sneak Peek Gallery!

Coming Soon

Our friend and a German luthier, Jochen Röthel, is currently building his next guitar for GSI. The guitar should be ready for shipment in a few weeks as Jochen has already applied the first coats of shellack.

In our opinion, Jochen Rothel, is one of the finest luthiers working out of Germany today. He grew up in a wood-working family with his father being a cabinet maker in Kitzingen, a city in the northern part of Bavaria, Germany. His passion for guitars motivated him to learn how to build guitars at the Lakewood Guitars workshop of Martin Seeliger in Giesson. He also met Michel Brück who later became a very inspiring influence for Jochen. In 1992, Jochen participated in Guitar Builders Workshop conducted by Josè Luis Romanillos in Córdoba, Spain. This life-changing experience, was a decisive factor for Jochen’s later specialization in building classical guitars. Five years later, Jochen graduated with his Masters Degree in lutherie and soon moved to Oldenburg Germany to work as an independent guitar-maker ever since.

Jochen’s guitars are sonorous, lightly-built with impressive low body frequencies. We’ve received some sneak peek photos. For this new guitar, Jochen used cedar for the soundboard and CSA rosewood for the back and sides. See the gallery below and don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions!
