D'Addario artist Ana Čižmek records on a new Jean-Noël Rohé guitar.

On location in Europe with D’Addario

D'Addario artist, Ana Čižmek, recorded three videos for the “On Location with D’Addario” series. The videos were captured on location in Strasbourg, France where Ana met with Jean-Noel Rohe to record on his guitar. Videography and audio were done by Emilie Fend. A special thanks to our friends from D’Addario for making this possible!

Vicente Asencio’s "Collectici Íntim" is a five-movement suite for guitar, composed in 1965. Each movement captures a different mood or emotional state, reflecting the title "Intimate Collection." Asencio’s deep connection to the Spanish guitar tradition is apparent throughout the work, blending evocative melodies and vibrant rhythms with modern harmonic language.

"La calma," the third movement of the suite, translates to “The Calm.” As the title suggests, this movement is serene, introspective, and meditative, providing a stark contrast to some of the more rhythmically driven movements of the suite. Pay attention and you may see Ana play with her nose?!

The fourth movement of the suite, "La Gaubança" translates roughly from Valencian as “pleasure” or “joy.” In this movement, Asencio explores a playful and jubilant character, contrasting with some of the more reflective and introspective movements of the suite.

Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco's "24 Caprichos de Goya, Op. 195," were written between 1961 and 1962. This set of guitar works was inspired by the famous Los Caprichos series of etchings by Spanish artist Francisco Goya (1746–1828). Each of the 24 pieces corresponds to a specific Goya etching, translating the painter’s dark, satirical, and often haunting imagery into vivid musical expressions. "No Hubo Remedio" (There Was No Remedy), the 12th etching in Goya’s Los Caprichos series, depicts a tragic and macabre scene. In the etching, a woman stands bound and blindfolded, seemingly awaiting her execution by firing squad.
