Five New Videos By Ashley Lucero Have Been Published on the GSI YouTube Channel

We've published five new videos by our good friend, Ashley Lucero. We first met Ashley when she was selected to be the recipient of the 2020-2021 GSI Foundation scholarship at the USC Thornton School of Music. Ashley is not only a performing artist, but she is also a great teacher and classical guitar composer.

During her most recent visit to GSI, Ashley recorded five videos. In the first two videos, you can hear Roland Dyens' arrangements of two popular songs - "Syracuse" by Henri Salvador and "Göttingen" by French singer, Monique Andrée Serf, known as "Barbara". The guitars featured in the videos are a 1929 Francisco Simplicio SP/MH and a 1991 Gioachino Giussani SP/MP.

In the next video, you'll have a chance to hear Ashley playing flamenco! She recorded for us a "Rumba Del Día Nueve" by Spanish flamenco guitarist, Juan Martín. For this video, Ashley chose a Cordoba Luthier Select Series "Santos Hernandez" SP/MP. This model is inspired and largely based on a 1921 Santos that we had several years ago at GSI.

Ashley finished her recording session with two pieces by Brazilian guitarist and composer, Baden Powell. The first composition, "Pra Valer", is a slower piece with a captivating and beautiful melody. Ashley picked an excellent guitar for her first recording - a gorgeous example of a vintage 1965 Jose Ramirez "1a AM" SP/CSAR. It's one of the stronger examples of a top 60s Ramirez we've seen in recent years. Baden Powell's piece featured in the next video, "Choro Para Metronómo" is unique because it must be performed with a metronome! Check out what it sounds like. Ashley recorded it on a 1968 Ignacio Fleta CD/IN. The sound of this guitar is absolutely magical, powerful, and rich.
